Amber Kinetics, Inc. is looking for a talented engineer to own key flywheel validation tasks. The Validation Team owns system level metric definition, test planning, and performance analysis for Amber Kinetics current and in-development flywheel products. The primary tasks will be planning and executing validation tests and metrics for prototype bearing, vacuum and material changes, analyzing, plotting and reporting results from those tests. This includes benchtop and field testing. The candidate must be able to manage several tasks at once and maintain a solid foundational understanding of the flywheel system and AK’s data collection, organization, and reporting processes. They should bring troubleshooting and data analysis skills. Work experience developing new clean energy products is highly valued.


Required Experience and Skills

  •  B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • At least 4 years of industry experience including both hands-on and analytical technical tasks
  • Experience with hardware test setup. Choosing and installing instrumentation,designing mechanical test rigs, managing data streams, and reporting results
  • Experience with technical test design. Identifying and controlling variables, sample size, and predicting possible results
  • Quantitative data analysis including model validation, regression, plotting and visualization, data quality assessment
  • System-level analytical skills, especially for energy conversion processes
  • Strong communication (written, graphical, and presentation). Able to present complex technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues 
  • Organized and able to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks


Desirable Experience and Skills

  •  M.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace) or Physics or related
  • Extensive experience with rotating machinery, PCB/PCA design and testing or motor/generator design and testing
  • Design of Experiments experience, or experience testing large parameter spaces with limited samples available
  • Extensive experience in reliability testing
  • Extensive experience with data acquisition (hardware, instrumentation)
